Pumpkin Seed

Pumpkin is native to North America and especially to Mexico or Texas. Introduced in the 16th century in Europe, it was one of the first vegetables reported from the “New World”, along with the tomato. Today, the largest producer of pumpkins is China, which grows one quarter of the world’s production.
The seeds are primarily used for producing oil, which has recently become a trend for European consumers. It is very popular in the kitchen due to its very unique fruity taste.

From Seed to Pumpkin Seed Oil

Pumpkin is an annual vegetable that belongs to the family of cucurbits and contains oil seeds, which are harvested in the fall. The oil from these seeds can then be extracted. Usually 2 to 3 kg of seeds is required, or approximately 33 pumpkins of average size, to obtain 1 L of virgin oil from the pumpkin seeds.
